Carrickfergus Town Centre
Public Realm Improvement Project

On behalf of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, welcome to the Digital Public Information Event for its plans to provide public realm improvements on streets within Carrickfergus town centre.

The proposal seeks public realm improvements to include access improvements and interpretative works at the town walls, creation of a ‘walk of light’ and wider public realm improvements at Harbour Square the Parade Ground and Joymount House car park, creation of new ‘pocket parks’, works to Marine Highway and improved pedestrian connections.  It also proposes general public realm improvements to existing streets and car parking areas, new façade treatment to existing WCs in the harbour car park, wayfinding signage and interpretative signage, hard and soft landscaping.

You can view the proposed development plans for the proposal below and complete an online feedback form based on the information provided. The information contained on this website and the feedback forms provided are in addition to a public consultation event which will be held in Carrickfergus Civic Centre, 11 Antrim Street, Carrickfergus BT38 7DG on Thursday 16th April 2026, between 4pm and 7pm. Details of this event have been advertised in the local press and notification leaflets circulated within the vicinity of the proposed site. Please note the consultation events are separate to the previous Consultations that have taken place to date and relate to the public realm improvements only.  Other associated proposals for the Visitors Centre, Civic Centre and Carrickfergus Castle will be dealt with by separately managed applications.

This website provides an alternative public consultation platform to the event to be held in the Civic Centre. Mid and East Antrim Borough Council would encourage all those with an interest in the proposal to leave their feedback below. Contact details of all respondents will be held confidentially and in line with GDPR regulations.

What Happens Next?

This digital public information event will close on Monday 11th May 2026 and any comments received up to that point in time will be considered by the design team. We would ask that comments are submitted either via the site or to Resolve Planning directly no later than this date. Once all of the feedback has been considered and any necessary changes made, the design team will proceed to submit a planning application to Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.

It is important to note that any feedback on this website is a representation to the applicant, and not to the planning department at Mid and East Antrim Borough Council directly. If a planning application is submitted, normal neighbour notification and publicity will be undertaken and you will have the opportunity to make formal representations regarding the proposal at that time.

If you have any difficulty accessing the information on this website, any difficulty using the feedback form or require hard copies of the presentation, please contact Sarah McDowell at Resolve Planning.
